How the control works

From a click online to the engine, in under a minute

A Murphy controller connects to a Ranch Systems node over RS-485. The node pulls engine data at regular intervals and delivers it to the online application over cellular. When you start or stop — manually, on a schedule, or by an automated rule reacting to another sensor — the command travels back to the node and to the controller, typically in under a minute.

Live telemetry

Engine status current within 5–10 minutes: RPM, temperature, oil pressure, battery, run hours, discharge pressure, and intake level indicators.

Fast control

Start/stop delay under 5 seconds when pre-programmed, or under a minute ad-hoc, with remote throttling where the controller supports it.

Ranch Systems was selected by the FCGMA as the vendor to provide the equipment and cloud platform necessary for well owners to comply with the AMI ordinance — automating extraction reporting across the district.

Automated Meter Infrastructure Ordinance Solution

An ordinance requiring all metered wells to have automated meter infrastructure (AMI) to record extraction totals was adopted by the Fox Canyon Groundwater Management Agency. Ranch Systems was selected as the vendor to provide the equipment and cloud platform necessary for well owners to comply. A rebate may be available for early applications — potentially covering the cost of the basic mandatory equipment and the first year of the Ranch Cloud Platform.

What is included

The package consists of: an RS130 telemetry unit, FL-MP20-RS232 optical reader, PS-250-6P pressure transducer, and the Ranch Cloud Platform and Access Portal for the first year of use.

This solution goes beyond simple water-usage tracking. Coupled with the optical reader, sensors determine pump efficiency — and when the platform detects an issue, an error alert is sent to a predefined list of users via email, text, or voice call.

The RS330 is an advanced telemetry node, data logger, and equipment controller capable of reading data from a variety of sensors and uploading it to the Ranch Cloud™ platform.

RS330 can function as a standalone unit or as part of a multi-node RanchMesh™ network. The standalone unit includes a cellular modem that communicates directly with Ranch Cloud. A RanchMesh network is the better fit for areas with limited cellular coverage, or for large installations spanning multiple locations — a base station communicates with Ranch Cloud and the local mesh, while router and end nodes relay through it to extend range past line-of-sight or terrain limits.

RS10 wireless sensor transmitter

The RS10 is a compact, self-contained sensor interface using Bluetooth® long-range, ultra-low-power wireless technology. With RS10, equipment installation is no longer constrained by cabling — place sensors where needed and connect them wirelessly to a host unit up to 1,000 ft away (typically up to 350 ft with trees or foliage in the way). It connects directly to RM400 (built-in Bluetooth®), or to RS130 and RS330 via the RS10 Receiver.

RS10 works two ways. As a telemetry transmitter, it feeds sensor data to a host unit (RM400, RS130, or RS330) for real-time upload to Ranch Cloud™. As a standalone data logger — no host unit or cellular connection required — it stores readings locally and you pull data on-site via Bluetooth®, sold and configured under the RanchDL brand.

Overview

The RS10 is a compact, self-contained sensor interface utilizing Bluetooth® long-range, ultra-low-power wireless technology. It communicates with a host telemetry unit to upload sensor data and receive commands from the Ranch Cloud™ platform.

With RS10, equipment installation is no longer constrained by cabling — place sensors where needed and connect them wirelessly to a host unit up to 1,000 feet away (typically up to 350 ft. with trees or foliage in the way). It's well suited to trees/vines, row crops, pivot/linear irrigation, potted nursery, hoop house, and greenhouse environments, plus small-plot research and other environmental monitoring. Its small size and flexible mounting make it easy to move during harvest or whenever a cable run would be in the way.

RS10 connects directly to RM400 (built-in Bluetooth®), or to RS130 and RS330 via the RS10 Receiver.

The RS10 Bluetooth® Receiver is a compact, self-contained external modem for telemetry units that don't have built-in Bluetooth®. Powered by the host telemetry unit, it lets that unit sample sensors connected via the RS10 Bluetooth® Transmitter & Data Logger — giving growers more options for upgrading or expanding an installation with wireless sensor connectivity.

RM400 has Bluetooth® built in and doesn't need a receiver. RS130 and RS330 both support the RS10 Receiver to add that connectivity.

Ranch Systems built its reputation in California agriculture, then began expanding internationally in 2008. Led by a rancher who builds technology

Before founding Ranch Systems, Jacob spent nearly a decade at Oracle, where he built the company's first mainstream wireless application server and went on to serve as its first CTO for mobile, wireless, and voice technology — also serving a term as Vice Chairman of the Open Mobile Allience's predecessor industry body. Earlier, he advised clients at McKinsey & Company, co-founded a Danish startup building rugged field computers for agriculture and forestry, and consulted on technology for the Danish government's foreign-aid program in West Africa. He combined that career with his family's farming history — and his own experience as a rancher in Mendocino County, California — to start Ranch Systems in 2005. He lives in Novato, California.

Overview

The RS10 Bluetooth® Transmitter & Data Logger is a compact, self-contained data logger that uses Bluetooth® long-range, ultra-low power wireless technology. In its standard configuration, it operates as a data logger, capturing and storing sensor readings for later retrieval. Sensors are plug-and-play SDI-12 and MODBUS sensors, as well as wireless sensors deployed up to 1,000 ft around the unit.

Using a web browser on mobile devices, laptops or desktop, users can connect via standard Bluetooth® to download data and configure logging parameters. Data is both offered as an instantly downloaded CSV file and pushed to Ranch Cloud™ for advanced viewing and sharing. If automated, real-time data is needed, the RS10 can be upgraded to pair with any Ranch Systems host telemetry unit, enabling automated uploads to the Ranch Cloud™ platform at regular intervals — see the RS10 Transmitter page for telemetry mode.
